Clapping Alien Cheeks

Area 51 Raid
15mm

Possibly I've seen too much
Hangar 18, I know too much

Remember 2019?  I barely do.  But something strange happened back then, back when we still had a measurable metric for "strange".  A bunch of nerds jokingly decided to raid a top secret US military installation and discover the aliens hidden there.

Yeah.  You remember now.  A critical component of the raid was the Naruto Run, intended to allow people whose exercise mainly consisted of playing "Sonic the Hedgehog" to outrun bullets:

Alien cheeks, here I come!

The Air Force were fully briefed.

It must have worked, because nobody got shot.

The figure is a Khurasan zombie whose pose I suddenly recognized a while ago.

Shock to the System

Cyberzombie Revolutionary
15mm

It was a night
Hell of a night, L.A., it really was
Oh what a riot
I said yeah, come on
It makes my life feel real
Fear police and civil corruption oh yeah
Is there a man who would be king
And the world stood still

In 1993 Billy Idol released his fifth album, "Cyberpunk".  Its questionable musical merits and cultural impact aside, it gave us the absolutely bomber song "Shock to the System"... and its slightly cheesy but enjoyable video.

The video's loose storyline is of a civil riot of some kind.  A lone camcorder-wielding man witnesses a group of police beating somebody. When they discover that he's seen them, they badly beat him in turn.  The smashed fragments of his camcorder incorporate themselves into his battered body to produce a lurching technological monstrosity with an enormous camera protruding from one eye socket. Totally not a metaphor for anything...

"It'd sure be weird if everyone could record what's
happening around them at any time..."

This conversion is based on a Khurasan zombie.

"This won't seem so farfetched in 2021, folks."

Scruffy sleuth

Harry Salami, PI
15 mm

End of the Road
A Harry Salami Mystery
By Burt Hardcastle
Harry Salami's back, in a gripping new mystery from the author of  the bestselling "Cat's Game".  A millionaire land tycoon's wife has gone missing, and though the police have dropped the case, her sister believes she's no runaway bride.  It's up to Harry to find the truth, in a town where truth is scarcer than a stiff drink. Can he survive a web of intrigue that leads... all the way to the top?

"Harry Salami" is a name my kids came up with once, which I spun into a rambling mystery tale told on a dull car trip. Naturally I made him a noir detective, complete with jaded monologue and dubious business practices.  They still don't know why the name is so funny... :)

Harry is a lightly-converted Khurasan figure.

At an old factory outside of town, Harry hears a faint voice: "Is.. someone there? Help!"

Murphy's Law

RoboCop
15 mm

"My program will not allow me to act against an officer of this company".

Another Khurasan figure painted as a favour.  I tried for a subtle purple ambient light effect as requested, but it's hard to see.  Maybe the reflection of red/blue police lights?

"No sense of humour, huh Pinocchio?"

Big City Clown

The Joker
15mm

"It's not about the money... it's about sending a message."

I painted the "clown prince of crime" in Gotham city for an online friend... The figure is a Khurasan gangster.

"This town needs an enema!"

Cool and the Gang

Cyberpunk Crew
15 mm

For an instant, she stared directly into those soft blue eyes and knew, with an instinctive mammalian certainty, that the exceedingly rich were no longer even remotely human.

Whether you need to smuggle pirated simsoft cartridges through Yakuza territory in Neo-Tokyo or extract a star scientist's bioengineered child out of a fortified corporate compound in Arizona, this band of hard-hitting underground operatives are up to the task.  Equipped with high-tech weaponry and armour, biological and cybernetic enhancements, and the coolest of long coats (because it's raining... it's always raining), their motto is "No job too big, no ICE too black"...

Figures are Khurasan, duffel bag objective marker is by me :)

The gang encounter hunter-killer bots, courtesy of the zaibatsu they recently robbed.

Cyberpunk Standoff

Cyberpunk Standoff
15 mm

Police and thieves in the street, oh yeah
Fighting the nation with their guns and ammunition

On the neon-lit, corporate-controlled streets of the mega-cities of the future, those with the power make the law, and those with the money have the power.  A B-Secur private police officer faces off with a mysterious hacker... Is he a mere criminal, or a revolutionary?  Is there a difference any more?

I've had these Khurasan figures in my collection for years.  They're really cool (especially the gangers), but they're scaled a bit small to fit in well with my other 15mm figures, and so they've unfortunately languished.  I'll see if I can get them painted up and post them in a bit.

An offer you can't refuse

Dirty Thirties Gangsters
15mm

I painted this buncha wise guys for the same person who sent me some 10mm fantasy characters a while back.  They're Khurasan's "LC-103, Sheparton's gangster henchmen" from his eldritch horror range.  These may have spurred some light research into men's fashion, prompted by such questions as "did hats match suits?" and "who wore spats?" (in this case the two dapper goons on the right).

Sinister Synthetics

Android Hunter-Killer Team
15 mm

Ja tvoi sluga, ja tvoi rabotnik

Sigh. I remember the good old days, when a google search for "killer robots" led to popular movies, and not news articles...

These Khurasan figures are ostensibly "police bots", but I think adding skull masks gave them a really menacing military look.

Short Rounds

Dwarf Mercenary and Goblin Tank Ace
15mm scale

This couple of diminutive but tough guys have been on deck at my painting table for a while.  Fun quick paint jobs, and full of their own character; one a high-tech power-armoured warrior, the other a leather-helmeted trench fighter with a jaunty scarf.  The dwarf is a Khurasan figure, while the greenskin is from Ion Age's Malig range.

"Guys?  Guys?  I could really use air support right about now..."
I have a couple of really impressive 28mm figures coming soon from the Bear's Head Miniatures Kickstarter, they're done casting now so I'm hoping to see them show up within the month...

The Parasitoid Undead!

Worm Zombies
15 mm

Following infection by Gordius anthropophagus, a human victim slips into a days-long coma, only to awake ravenously hungry.  After days of savage, indiscriminate feeding, the higher nervous functions break down and the head lolls back as the parasitoid worm typically erupts from the neck or face.  The host body lurches to its feet again under its rudimentary control and the worm whips around voraciously seeking new hosts to inject its eggs into.

I was inspired to make these by thinking about the fungal zombies from"The Last of Us" and real-life horsehair worms, which are basically the hideous parasitoids that insects would make horror films about if they could.  As it is, their sheer horribleness is well-documented on YouTube.  Figures are Khurasan's "The Dead" and "The Raging Dead".

Some kind of mushroom...

Myconids
15 mm scale

Myconids are a peaceful, telepathic race of mushroom creatures who live in the D&D world's "Underdark" caverns.  These Khurasan figures could be peaceful Myconids wishing to be left in peace by more aggressive species... or menacing and harmful Cursed Myconids defending themselves with bursts of necrotic spores.

Diminutive Extra-Terrestrial

Friendly Asogian
15 mm scale

The small-statured natives of the planet Brodo Asogi ("The Green Planet") are intelligent and good-natured.  Their society values science and exploration and they send research expeditions to the farthest reaches of space in the hopes of discovering new natural wonders.  Though physically weak, they have potent psi powers which give them telekinetic and healing abilities.

A Khurasan figure from the pack "friendly demons".

2015: Heavies and Stealth Agent

Puritan Power Armour
15 mm scale

I got these Puritan superheavy troops from Khurasan last year, and just decided to paint a couple up as post-holiday slump-buster.  I don't know what, if any, fluff to assign them yet so I held off on markings etc.  They seem like they'd be nice Neo Soviet/sci-fi-communist elite troops of some kind (especially painted red like this).

Splinter Assassin
15 mm

The first figure from my latest Rebel Miniatures order (a solid handful of 15 mm pirates and ninjas remain untouched as yet).  This guy is obviously "inspired" by the protagonist of the Splinter Cell video games and his not-very-stealthy green head lamps.  A very nice little sculpt!

Basic bitz box basing...

Don't Get Me Busted

Female Bounty Hunters
15 mm

Donna A, Donna C, Donna F, Donna R, and Donna S are a team of bounty hunters whose outfits are as "skintight" as their game!

As "teenage runaways" desperate to get out of the stagnant agricultural colony of Nova NorCal, they teamed up to buy a ship and some weapons and hung out their shingle as fugitive trackers and private security consultants.  Now they and their pet Speed Demon are "hungry for blood" and headed to wherever they can find some well-paying "party action".  More than one criminal has ended up "all messed up" and flying back to face a "police blitz" after underestimating their tracking and combat abilities...

Maintenance Droid
15mm

An essential item on any space station or ship, this intelligent droid can fix and maintain most systems.  Its repulsor system allows it to hover and access any part of the ship, as well as maneuver outside the hull using reaction jets.  Although all droids leave the factory with the same pleasantly neutral personality, it's widely believed that those working on older ships in poor shape tend to become "grumpy" over time.

An Ion Age miniature from the "Duxis drone and pilot" set.

Sneak peek

Female Bounty Hunter in Ghost Suit
15 mm

One of the Khurasan female bounty hunters I'm working on.  Not much else done on them to be honest, but I liked how the OSL looked on this one so I thought I'd post it...
