Imperial Hot Water Heater Repairman

I'm starting one of the minis received from tidoco2222 in the Mini Exchange. I'm not sure what exactly he's supposed to be, or what that huge thing he's carrying really is. So he's now a member of the Adeptus Thermaquaticus, cyborg monks responsible for maintaining the hot water heaters in Imperial buildings and spacecraft. An important duty, as a Space Marine who has had a cold shower in the morning is a dangerous creature.

(This is a resin mini, converted a little by me. Green bits are putty, and the protruding "faucet" is a bent plastic rod)

It's turning out pretty well, I think. I just have to not be afraid of producing dramatic contrast in my paint job (often a problem for me).

I bought this guy from Cindy in Holland. I have absolutely no idea who made him, but he appears to be from the 80's or early 90's based on sculpting style and the lead alloy. I like him because he reminds me of the classic Ralph Bakshi film "Wizards", a poignant if somewhat cheesy fantasy critique of war and militarism.

I actually can't show you this miniature yet. I'm entering it in the Exodus Road Miniatures pirate painting contest contest, and the rules prohibit prior disclosure of who painted what. The contest ends on September 19, also known as Talk Like A Pirate Day.

In keeping with this guy's post-apocalyptic or steampunk character, the base is supposed to resemble very rusted iron/steel plates, with shiny metal showing from recent wear. I don't really like how his goggles turned out, they look too bright, I think.

I painted this as a birthday gift for my friend... David! I hope he likes it... I am a little worried that it's actually tacky garage-sale art and I just don't realize it yet. But it was fun to paint. I based the faces on a photo which I ran through GIMP's "threshold" filter to get the strong contrast.

Their methods ranged from shouting motivational slogans in battle to purging "counter-revolutionary" officers and machine-gunning troops who retreated against orders. Not one inch of Russia to the Fascists!

Got this guy on eBay, his tab says "1988" so he's a little bit vintage. I'm painting him as a devotee of Nurgle, the Chaos god of contagion and decay, and I've sculpted a plague base similar to this one.
