I AM DISAPPOINT

So it looks like my Miniature Exchange recipient bsop (a.k.a. Ben Sopczyk, of Glens Falls NY) has decided to screw us :( I say "us" because not only did he not send anything on to the next guy, thus ripping him off, but now I really should send something so that guy has something to paint. I don't mind doing that at all, but I shouldn't need to. This all leaves a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth, but ultimately, who cares? I just don't want someone else to have a bad experience from this :)

So, sent to Bret ("Ritus") in Utah:

Slow going...

Well, my wife is away for a whole month, to improve her French among the Quebecois. Logically this means I should get loads of painting done including a lovely WAMPED! entry, n'est ce pas?
Reality = apathy, and no contest entry even selected :P

This is not shaping up to be one of my better paint jobs. It's kind of a frustrating mini, the overall design aesthetic is "sleek 'n' advanced" but the casting is a little "seamy 'n' pitted". I do like how the top surface looks... so far. But I'm glad I put a few extra protrusions on it to break it up a bit.

(also, right now I'm stuck taking photos with my wife's $700 camera instead of my $99 one, god I miss it. I can't get the damn SLR to stop flashing!)

Oh... and a nifty arrival from eBay:

Reflections

So this doesn't look much like a reflection of fire on water, does it?

In fact, it looks more like sugar-tripping schoolchildren threw craft paints at a moving target as some kind of demented performance art project. Pity, that. Oh well, try, try again.

New! Shiny!

Here's a little vignette I just finished. It's called "The Painter Stripped Bare Before His Critics" - I put it together as a sort of comment on the pressures of trying to paint to a consistently high technical standard.

Yes, exposure to the very best work that people have to offer can paralyze as well as motivate me... I really try to paint for pleasure and not to impress others, but inevitably I find myself frustrated by the staggering amount of effort that goes into improving my style. This does not come naturally to me :(
