Sirius Black/"Padfoot"
28mm scale
In the form of a huge black dog, Sirius Black follows his godson Harry to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, hoping to keep him safe from the most terrible dangers in the wizarding world...
I painted this figure at the request of my daughter, who is currently reading through the HP series at a shocking rate, totally immersed in the world of magic. The figure is a pre-slotta Citadel wolf dating from the late 1980's.
Very nice indeed, Allison M. The signpost is a particularly nice touch.
ReplyDeleteThanks! The signpost is critical to actually _identify_ an otherwise pretty generic figure, and as a bonus gives the piece a bit of height variation.
DeleteDefo not a a Potter head, which considering my age is understandable. Discworld was my cup of tea TBH.
ReplyDeleteBut literary preferences aside, lovely model: highlights feel really clever choosen with such amount of fur texture it'd be easy to overdo and make it look grey. Congrats on that.
Also appreciate how it's based. Gaming models tend to be tight on space but this have 'plenty of air to breathe'. Areas with little to no extra detail are uncommon nowadays but essential in art for composition weight purposes.
Seems a simple piece, maybe it is, woni judge but works like wonder.
It is a simple piece, honestly. I didn't want to overdo it, or have it take so long my daughter forgot she suggested it before I was done ;) I'm glad it turned out actually looking black, because that's Sirius' defining look. As you said it's a matter of keeping many deep shadowed areas with judicious highlights.
DeleteI'm surprised you haven't posted some of the superb Micro Art Studios Discworld figures at some point... or done a bunch of your own versions :D Admittedly, those are a rabbit hole I don't dare dive into, because I'd want them ALL (particularly Death and the witches).
Cute little doggy. I'm not familiar with the Potter-verse, but I know when I see a well painted wolf.
ReplyDeleteIt's a simple yet extremely well done piece. And I just realized your motto ... "Every day's a good day when you paint." Loved that!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely makes the day better!
DeleteGlad you like this, I do enjoy projects that don't become a big production.
That looks good and grim!
ReplyDeleteWhat he said: grin!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely worthy adding to Mordheim Undead band...
