Stalwart soldier

Man-at-Arms
28 mm

Wife and kids, household pet
Army green was no safe bet

Duncan, the Man-At-Arms, advises the crown of Eternia on matters of war and security, but he's also ready to wade into battle swinging his huge mace.  He's the adopted father of the female warrior Teela.

This is another "Masters of the Universe" character from Quest Miniatures.  It was an interesting chance to work with a colour scheme I probably wouldn't have chosen myself.  Looking at this figure now makes me realize how much those colours make him resemble "Strontium Dog" character Johnny Alpha...

    1. Thanks... though I'll never understand why some colours seem a lot easier to get a smooth blend than others. It seems so arbitrary :/

  4. Totally agree, if you were to paint just 1 colour would it be orange. You always blend it creamy like butter on hot bread!

No-one mentioned the grey/metal belt which it's ace too.

Mostly your minis have the looks of the 80s red era done in the highest standard for that time with the Coat D'Arms paints (snakebite, snotling green...)

You should revisit your early CMoN posts and compare them to your actual stuff to grasp how we feel when looking at the stuff "you are already used to". Self criticism and eyes grown accustomed to working on the same fig for hours sometimes makes you lose sense of perspective about what you are doing right.

On the other hand, never came to that conclusion TBH and it's surprisingly accurate. Owning the complete Masters cartoons and even a hand drawn Johnny Alpha from Carlos Ezquerra I feel ashamed I didn't realize before :[

    1. Ah... believe me, I keep those old figures around, a few are even in my display case. Chalky drybrushed highlights, crossed eyes... the good old days, right? They serve as a useful "memento mori" sometimes XD But thank you. I won't lie, I am very happy with this figure, and I'm glad others enjoy it too :D

  5. Just for a fleeting moment I thought you had painted your 'avatar alter-ego' i.e. Gordon Freeman :) Nice color transitions on the armor by the way.
